Gunderloch
Jean-Baptiste
2002 Riesling Kabinett
$15.99
New Hampshire Liquor Store
Where we drank it: Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier, Kittery Point, ME
Comments: At a recent wine tasting, we learned that Kabinett is one of the earlier German picking seasons, making these Rieslings light and refreshing (rather than the overly sweet flavor that characterizes some Rieslings). Plus, Kabinetts are affordable – averaging $10-$12/bottle. The only challenge is finding them – we went to several liquor stores with limited success. However, as soon as we removed the twist-off top from this wine, our mouths exploded with fruity flavor. Despite the punchy flavors and 0aromas, this is a light summer wine that doesn’t overwhelm the palette. It’s great with seafood – we enjoyed it with oysters on the half shell.
