Last week, we had a wonderful family celebration for Mom's 60th birthday at The Mews restaurant in Provincetown. We didn't know much about the restaurant prior to our dinner there, but what a fantastic find! Everyone's food was outstanding - from appetizers to dessert. We started our meal with the Lobster Dumplings in Miso Broth and the Scallops Ceviche (one of the specials). The scallops were served in a martini glass, topped with seaweed salad, and had an unbelievable combination if citrus lime and cilantro flavors. We then shared the warm goat cheese and beet salad. The goat cheese had perfect consistency and taste, and the beets provided a nice complement. Everyone at the table agreed that this was the best salad on the menu.
For entrees, we shared the Pappardelle with Pan Roasted Scallops and the Filet Mignon with Bearnaise sauce (our own version of surf & turf). The medium-rare steak was so tender it practically melted in our mouths, and the sweet potato Au gratin was a unique twist on traditional meat & potatoes. Both of us quickly devoured it, even though we're not usually sweet potato fans. Harvested locally, the scallops were extremely fresh, and the combination of spinach, wild mushrooms, garlic, and lemon juice over thick noodles was tasty. For dessert, we all shared the Jamaican Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie. If you are a chocolate & peanut butter fan, you'll love this dessert. Although it's extremely rich, so one bite was just about enough.
The Mews is located in a lovely setting, right on the water in the heart of Provincetown. Definitely request a table downstairs by the windows if you want great water views. As Mom said, "It's kind of like being in a fishbowl." Our only complaint is that it was a little loud - but then again, it was a Thursday night on the Cape in the summer. The service - particularly our waiter, Kenny - was outstanding! Without question, The Mews is worth trying next time you visit the Outer Cape.
