After spending hours visiting a vast range of animals (our favorites being the Pandas!) at the San Diego Zoo, we continued our explorations at the nearby Balboa Park. However, we quickly learned that Balboa Park could consume a day unto itself, with its stunning architecture, spectacular gardens, and 15 museums (Alice managed to steal a few precious minutes in the art museum before it closed for the day). Desiring a late afternoon libation and snack, we decided to check out Prado at Balboa Park upon the recommendation of Alice's colleague, Amy Peterson. The restaurant was lovely with indoor and outdoor seating and an open-air feeling throughout. The romantic mood of the restaurant was only enhanced by the couple sitting next to us, who were married in Balboa Park 30 years ago to the day. We started off with the world famous sangria, which turned out to be the best we've ever tasted - refreshing but not too sweet. We also sampled two delicious appetizers - the fresh sashimi grade "ahi margarita" sambal with lime juice & sesame oil and a kobe beef sushi roll. We didn't have time to enjoy a full meal because we had a long drive to LA in front of us, but we were definitely glad that we stopped in at Prado. Next time we're in San Diego, we'll be sure to go back for dinner and reserve a table al fresco. A&T Ranking: 9/10
