Gewrztraminer

Attempting
to participate in our first Wine
Blog Wednesday #4 (New World Rieslings), we accidentally grabbed the wrong
bottle from the fridge. However, we enjoyed this Gewurztraminer thoroughly, as
it’s distinctive from our “usual suspect” Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blancs.
This wine was packed full of flavor, with a flowery aroma followed by sweet
grapefruit flavors and a slightly acidic bite. The scent is powerful, yet
enticing – this wine is not for the faint of heart. According to the
winemaker’s notes, this vintage can serve well as both an aperitif or as an
accompaniment to Pacific Rim cuisine. We, however, enjoyed it with leftover ham
casserole, spinach and salad. Hey – our tastes (and budget) are still evolving!
This was a gift from our dear friend, Gervais
Conlin, and we thank her for helping us break out of our usual comfort zone.
