Thadd's Price-Wine Score Ratio- P/WS Ratio

A valuation ratio of a wine’s current price compared to its Wine Spectator Score.

For example, if a wine is currently selling at $20 a bottle and has a Score of 91, the P/WS ratio for the wine would be 0.21 ($20/91)  vs. 0.60 ($55/91)

Also sometimes known as "wine multiple" or "wine scoring multiple".   

In general, a high P/WS suggests that wine lovers are drinking over-priced wine and wasting their money.

For this month's Wine Blogging Wednesday #20 the assignment was to chose a white wine from the non-Big three whites. We choose a delicious Chenin Blanc that was refreshing and clean, bursting with citrus, green apple and floral melon flavors. This wine is crisp and tart with a nice finish that lingers on your tongue. It's a perfect fruity wine for people like us who don't like things too sweet.

Wine Blog Wednesday #5-- Wines with Wacky Names

Pim over at Chez Pim will be hosting episode #5 of Wine Blog Wednesdays. The wine drinking will commence on 1/26/05. The topic for this WBW is wines with wacky names. Over the coming weeks as we shop for the wine with the wackiest name we will be exploring and reporting our takes on wine shops in and around Boston. We will be searching for excellent deals, diverse selection and friendly shop proprietors. Happy wine hunting.

Attempting to participate in our first Wine Blog Wednesday #4 (New World Rieslings), we accidentally grabbed the wrong bottle from the fridge. However, we enjoyed this Gewurztraminer thoroughly, as it’s distinctive from our “usual suspect” Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blancs. This wine was packed full of flavor, with a flowery aroma followed by sweet grapefruit flavors and a slightly acidic bite. The scent is powerful, yet enticing – this wine is not for the faint of heart. According to the winemaker’s notes, this vintage can serve well as both an aperitif or as an accompaniment to Pacific Rim cuisine. We, however, enjoyed it with leftover ham casserole, spinach and salad. Hey – our tastes (and budget) are still evolving! This was a gift from our dear friend, Gervais Conlin, and we thank her for helping us break out of our usual comfort zone.
